Okay, this one is kind of making us confuse because rumor has it that Mitsubishi Eclipse has been reported to be on the to-do list for the Japanese automaker. This really raise big question mark for us because as far as we can recall, Mitsubishi has no longer focus on building sportscar because they have no intention to bring back the Evo and turn all the resources for green car such as i-MiEV. And now this… the resurrection of Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Okay, the photo we attached was the Mitsubishi Eclipse concept which introduced back in 2004. Yeah… we pretty much aware that it was like 7 years ago and we do believe that Mitsubishi has more clear conscience than us. 7 years have passed and the Eclipse concept sportscar still remains as a concept. Now, if the rumor is true, Mitsubishi has one of the bets reasons they can offer us because Eclipse has sold almost one million since the first introduction to the US in 1989. Back then, the Eclipse snatched the most successful Japanese sportscar in the US.
That is one possible reason from Mitsubishi, but we do have other reason and its pretty much make sense. You do remember that Subaru is busy working on the production version of the BRZ and Toyota with the FT-86 II and the Supra, right? And also the Mazda MX-5 that just released the Black Tuned special edition for the Japanese domestic market. All these Japanese automakers still show that they just can’t leave the sportscar to die, and somehow we believe that deep down inside, Mitsubishi also have that tingling feeling. Feeling of want to bring other sportscar in the world.
Just so you know, the Mitsubishi Eclipse concept sportscar is powered by a 3.8L V6 that equips with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control (MIVEC) and these all to move the front wheel. As for the rear wheel is powered by a rear-mounted E-Boost electric motor for additional 200 horsepower which makes the total power output reaches 470 horsepower. No official comment from Mitsubishi about this rumor on resurrecting the Eclipse, but we really hope that it’s not just a rumor.
