Okay, first of all, we are not surprise with this rumor on Mitsubishi Evo could be reborn as plug-in hybrid; second of all, as much as we try to dig up, it seems like the Japanese automaker doesn’t want to confirm anything which only makes us clueless. It is very obvious that Evo sportscar doesn’t come in cheap which is why; if Mitsubishi stays on the track and ignore the risks by producing it, guess they don’t have enough resources.

It is very difficult to see the Mitsubishi Evo dies without any successor and automotive experts have predicted many engine options to give reasonable cost production for the sportscar. From diesel, hybrid and even the quirky one – electric have been some of the powerplant choices for the Evo. Well, we like the fact that Evo has so many choices for powerplant, but sadly, none of them are coming true.

Now, according to autoevolution.com, an inside source hinted that the Mitsubishi Evo will be arrived in 3 years or less and much likely in the form of a plug-in hybrid. Shocking? Not really, but at this point, this is what we have and we think that we have to accept it rather than not to see Evo ever again.

Suppose Mitsubishi Evo presents as plug-in hybrid sportscar, then not only it will establish the position of Japanese carmaker on the eco-friendly market segment; but also creating new segment, just like Subaru and Toyota with their affordable sportscar project. Whatever the powerplant choice is, although it destroys the image of Evo as pure road and off-road sportscar, what we need is the real result of this project, not another rumor.
