Mexico City wants to be an example for trying to make their city more eco-friendly as they are choosing the Nissan LEAF as their taxi fleet. Approximately, around 100 units of LEAF electric vehicle will be patrolling the streets of Mexico City soon. Three units of the Nissan LEAF had delivered to the local government. The delivering was conducted by Jose Munoz – Nissan Mexicana President and General Manager with the first of the three units of the LEAF was given to Mexico City Mayor – Marcelo Ebrard.
The 100 units of Nissan LEAF as Mexico City taxi is a pilot program because the final program will be involving around 500 units of electric vehicle. The new charging station has been build in the historic area of downtown Mexico City and its courtesy of the General Electric.
Jose Munoz – President and General Manager of Nissan Mexicana commented on the Nissan LEAF serves as Mexico City taxi, “Our corporate vision is that we are before the dawn of a new era in the global automotive industry and we leading the way towards zero-emissions mobility on a mass scale in the market. With Nissan LEAF, this era of zero-emission mobility becomes a reality.” LEAF as Mexico City taxi definitely will be additional tourist attraction because Mexico is one of the most visited countries by tourists.
