Many automotive fans questioned how Toyota managed to produce low cost sports car. Turns out, Subaru lends a hand on the 2012 Celica project. This joint project would be a rear wheel drive which Subaru supplied the horizontally opposed 4 cylinder engine. Toyota President and CEO for US region – Jim Lentz stated that, “Toyota wishes to launch affordable sports car for the US market.”
The new 2012 Toyota Celica will be a low cost sports car with a combination from Subaru and Toyota. This deal was announced by Toyota CEO Katsuaki Watanabe at a Tokyo press conference on April 2008. It is to be predicted that 2012 Toyota Celica will be equipped with a decent standard features such as air conditioning, sound system with MP3 plug in, and wireless cell phone link. The new version of Celica would be four passengers car, with plenty of space for adult in front, a spacious and comfortable rear seat.
The new Celica’s engine has 2.0 and 2.5liter horizontally opposed 4 cylinder which able to produce 170 up to 175 hp. Also have six speed manual and six speed automatic transmission. Toyota and Subaru have include safety features such as curtain side airbags, antilock brakes, antiskid system, traction control and a firm sport suspension.
